Second Step Violence Prevention
Second Step is a violence prevention and social emotional skill building program.  HCS uses this program with grades K-5.  It teaches children empathy, appropriate emotion management, and decision making skills.  Children also have the opportunity to practice new skills through role-play.  The program is based on research that shows that there is a link between high social-emotional skills and academic success.  For more information, please visit the Second Step website.

Steps to Respect Bullying Prevention
Steps to Respect is a school-wide bullying prevention program.  HCS uses this program in its elementary schools.  For more information, please visit the Steps to Respect website.

Project ALERT Alcohol and Drug Prevention
Project ALERT is an alcohol and drug use prevention program.  HCS uses Project ALERT in its middle schools.  The program is implemented through the Health Education curriculum. For more information, please visit the Project ALERT website.

Project TND Alcohol and Drug Prevention
Project TND is an alcohol and drug use prevention program.  HCS uses Project TND in its high schools.  The program is implemented through the Health Education curriculum.  For more information, please visit the Project TND website.

School Intervention Program (ScIP)
The School Intervention Program (ScIP) is an alcohol and drug intervention program, with services provided by Shoreline Behavioral Health.  Students who violate the Horry County School District’s policy surrounding dangerous substances are referred to this program for evaluation and services, as deemed necessary.  The purpose of the program is to reduce the risk of future policy violations related to alcohol/drugs and intervene with risk factors for alcohol/drug use.  For more information, please visit Shoreline Behavioral Health’s website.

Great to Wait Sexuality Education
Great to Wait is a sexuality education program.  HCS uses Great to Wait in its middle schools.  Students learn the importance of abstinence from sexual activity and how to deal with peer pressure.   

Making a Difference Sexuality Education
Making a Difference is a sexuality education program.  HCS uses Making a Difference in its middle schools.  Students learn the consequences of sex (pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and HIV infection), the importance of abstinence from sexual activity until marriage and how to respond to peer pressure. Safer Choices Sexuality Education & Teen Pregnancy Prevention
