FamilyTitle IV Safe & Drug Free Schools is a federally funded program that provides grants to school districts for violence prevention & alcohol/drug use prevention.  Horry County Schools applies for Safe & Drug Free Schools funding annually, through a grant proposal to the South Carolina Department of Education. The 2009-10 Safe & Drug Free Schools plan provides programming and technical assistance to Horry County public and participating private/charter schools to address:

  • Bullying Prevention
  • Violence Prevention
  • Alcohol/Drug/Tobacco Prevention
  • Teen pregnancy Prevention
  • Social Emotional Skill Building
  • Character Education

Safe & Drug Free Schools is coordinated with the Horry County School District’s Strategic Plan (Area of Focus: Safe, Nurturing and Healthy Environment), Title I, and the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Federal Grant.  Safe & Drug Free Schools is located in the Horry County Schools’ Health and Safety Services Department, and is part of HCS Support Services.
