SevenHorry County schools are among 128 award winning Palmetto Gold andPalmetto Silver schools sharing their success stories with othersthrough the State Department of Education's 2007 Palmetto Gold andSilver Awards Showcase. Initiated three years ago, Showcase is part ofthe Palmetto Gold and Silver program created by the EducationAccountability Act to recognize and reward academic achievement. Theschools received awards earlier this year.District schools earning honors include LakewoodElementary School, St. James Elementary School, Midland ElementarySchool, North Myrtle Beach Elementary School, Seaside ElementarySchool, North Myrtle Beach Intermediate School and Bridgewater Academy Charter School.
Aboutone-fourth of the state's 1,100 schools receive either a Gold or Silveraward each year. Awards criteria are set by the Education OversightCommittee and are based on absolute and improvement ratings on theschool report card.
