(posted on September 23, 2009)

Four students in the Culinary Arts program at the Academy for Technology and Academics are among 39 students in South Carolina to earn the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement from the National Restaurant Association. In order to earn this certificate, students must pass two annual exams and complete 400 hours of mentored work experience.

Students who earn their ProStart National Certificate of Achievement are eligible to apply for a scholarship from the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The ProStart certificate is widely recognized by many college and university restaurant, foodservice, and hospitality programs as a hallmark for high standards and excellence in performance. The certificate enables students to become eligible for scholarships, class credits and credit towards work experience requirements.

ProStart certificate winners are: Ellie Pcolar, Andrew Graham, Jaywine McCray and Jasmine Mitchell.
