Socastee High makes Newsweek’s list of top high schools for fourth year

(posted on June 9, 2009)

For the fourth consecutive year, Socastee High School was listed among “America’s Top Five Percent of High Schools” according to Newsweek magazine.

According to
www.newsweek.com, Socastee ranks 1,092 overall, and is the only school in the district to make the list.

Public schools are ranked according to the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school divided by the number of graduating seniors. All of the schools on the list are in the top five percent of public schools measured this way.

The top-ranked school in the nation was Talented and Gifted High School in Dallas, Texas, a designation it has earned at least twice before. The top-ranked South Carolina school was Academic Magnet High School in Charleston. The school ranked 12th overall, and was as high as seventh overall in 2008.
