School Programs - Secondary Choices

Connect Connect is an alternative secondary school program designed to ensure success for students who previously have experienced barriers in their academic pathway.

Early College High School - Early College expands the learning opportunities for other students to offer them a rigorous curriculum that blends high school and college. Early College is targeted to those who are underrepresented in postsecondary education which may include first generation of family to attend college and students for whom the cost of college is not affordable. ECHS is located on the Conway campus of Horry Georgetown Technical College.

International Baccalaureate  - The IB Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Scholars Academy
The Scholars Academy was established in 2003 through a partnership between Horry County Schools and Coastal Carolina University to provide advanced learners with a quality education in a supportive learning environment. Ninth and tenth graders are taught and supervised primarily by Horry County Schools teachers with some integration into college courses. Eleventh and twelfth graders take a combination of Advanced Placement and college courses taught by HCS teachers and CCU professors and attend most classes with college students. Students graduate with a high school diploma and as much as two years of college course credits

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
Horry County Schools is offering a new STEM program at The Academy for the Arts, Science, and Technology beginning 2011-2012.  Students throughout Horry County may participate in the 9-12 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program.  Beginning in the fall of 2011, a diverse group of no more than 100 ninth grade students from across our district will have the opportunity to pursue areas of interest and talent in science and math, including engineering, technology, and medicine, and to explore the arts.  In addition, the STEM program will offer accelerated learning options and a wide range of Advanced Placement courses. These AP courses will be available to AAST students as well as to students from across our school district.  AAST will continue its current career major offerings for juniors and seniors as it begins implementation of the new STEM program for ninth graders.
