Prototype Designs

A prototype school design is a school design that can be repeated at several sites. The same building is adopted to a new site except for changes in materials or equipment specifications due to code requirements or what has been learned through construction and use of previous buildings.

Horry County Schools utilizes prototype designs for many new facilities. By utilizing prototype designs, the time and cost of developing new facility designs are greatly reduced. Savings on design fees are substantial if modifications to the design are kept to a minimum. The big saving is planning time. Design time is also shortened by less reviews, revisions and delays.

Horry County Schools has six prototype designs. These designs have been used twenty-two times, saving the district valuable time and money in developing new facility designs.
