Our Core Academics

Math

Math instruction is based upon the SC curriculum standards and includes Course I and pre-algebra in grade 6; Course II, pre-algebra, and Algebra I in grade 7; and Course III, Algebra I, and Geometry in grade 8.

English/Language Arts

English/Language Arts instruction is based upon the SC curriculum standards and includes the areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and media literacy.

Science

Science instruction is based upon the SC Curriculum Standards for science and includes an integrated study of general science, life science, and earth science.

Social Studies

Social Studies instruction is based upon the SC Curriculum Standards for social studies and includes South Carolina history in grade 8 and World Geography and Cultures in grades 6 and 7.

Physical Education and Health

Physical Education and Health are required for all students.

Classes for High School Credit

Algebra I and Geometry

Seventh and Eighth grade students recommended for placement in Algebra I may receive high school credit if they successfully complete Algebra I; eighty grade students may receive credit for successfully completing Geometry.

English I

Eighth grade students may earn a high school credit by successfully completing English I.

Computer keyboarding (grades 7 and 8) and Computer Applications (grade 8)

Students successfully completing these courses may earn one-half unit of required high school credit for each of them.
