Constructivism is an approach to teaching based on research about how people learn. Many researchers say that each individual constructs knowledge rather than receiving it from others. My teaching is based on this belief, that students learn best when they gain knowledge through exploration and active learning. Hands-on materials are used instead of textbooks, and students are encouraged to think and explain their reasoning instead of memorizing and reciting facts. Our learning time is centered on themes, concepts, and connections between them; rather than isolated information. Both my students and I are co-investigating and searching for meaning about the way the world works. I am dedicated to making learning fun and interactive in order to reach every learner! Congratulations to Mrs. Penna for being selected Conway Elementary's Teacher of the year for the 2007 - 2008 school year. |
