CERTIFICATE RENEWAL INFORMATION

Highlights: Do you want to know the highlights of certificate renewal?
State Plan for Certificate Renewal: Do you know the 10 options and the process for earning renewal credit? Click here for the South Carolina Renewal Credit Plan. 
State Web Site: Do you have some specific certification questions?  Go to this site for many answers.  Click on the orange box at the top-right corner of the website to check your certification status.
HCS Professional Development Committee Members: Do you know your school's PDC member is?  Click here to find out.  This individual can help you with questions and information about the certificate renewal process.
Professional Growth Plans: Do you have a professional growth and development plan each year that is aligned with your goals in student achievement and approved by your supervisor?  The format is not important, the planning process is very important.  Click here for another evaluation form option.
School-Based Staff Development  Activities: Are your grade-level/department plans approved by your principal?  Who is responsible for maintaining attendance and awarding certificates for school-based activities? The limit for school-based activities in one year is 12 points and the limit for grade/department meetings is 12 points, for a total of 24 points in one year.  The school is responsible for monitoring attendance and participation and issuing one certificate to each person at the end of the year.  Click here to view the Extended Workshop Attendance Form to record attendance.
Renewal Activities for Administrators: If you are an administrator, click here for some options for earning renewal credit.
Allowable Staff Development Activities: Do you know which activities may be used for renewal credit?  Click here for a list of approved activities in Horry County Schools.
Verification/Documentation/Certificates: Do you know how to verify participation/credit for each option?  Do you know how to submit the documentation for credits?  Do you know that the social security number and supervisor’s approval are necessary before credit can be posted?  You should submit certificates to Anne Moore in Learning Services.  Click here to view a sample Staff Development Completion Certificate.  Each time you request a Change Action for your Professional Certificate, you will need to request TWO (2) copies of your college transcripts to verify completed coursework -- ONE will go to Donna Durant in Personnel for Certificate Renewal, and the other will need to be mailed to the State Department of Education for add-on certification or upgrades.    Be sure to read the state matrix carefully for documentation requirements, particularly pages 6-9. 
Technology Proficiency: Are you keeping a record of technology training?  Are you proficient in the use of technology for teaching and learning? Do you know your technology proficiency validity period?  
Computation Worksheet Are you maintaining a Computation Worksheet as a record of all your activities?
Request for Change Action: Do you know when to submit a Request for Change/Action?  Each time you request a Change Action for your Professional Certificate, Donna Durant in Personnel will need TWO (2) copies of each college transcript you are submitting to verify completed coursework.
Certificate Renewal Folder for Individual Records: Are you maintaining appropriate records for the renewal process?  If you do not have a folder, please see your school Professional Development Commitee Member.
