Horry County Parent - Child Home Program

• The Parent-Child Home Program is a home visiting program for families with children 16 months to four years old.
• Families are visited twice each week for two years by trained Home Educators.
• The Home Educator models parenting techniques through play using carefully chosen books and toys that are developmentally appropriate.
• At the first weekly home visit the item is introduced. The parent is given a guide sheet that has other suggested activities to do to enhance the learning. The Home Educator discusses what is developmentally appropriate at that time. The second visit of the week is to review what the family has done and enhance any activities suggested.
• The home educator is with the family two times a week for two years and is able to make referrals to other community’s resources as needed. (WIC, healthy partners, child find for screenings, parents for adult ed, etc.)
• The program promotes the educational success of children by encouraging verbal interaction and play between toddlers and parents.
• Each Child is given an assessment, assessing the child’s expressive and auditory language as well as social and cognitive development; this is used as a screening for pre and post scores measuring progressive outcomes.
• The parents are receive a pre and post screening measuring their attitudes, behaviors, and understanding related to their child’s development and Literacy
• The Parent-Child Home Program, is a research-based intensive home visiting program, promotes language, literacy and school success through reading, playing and verbal interaction between parents and children
