A. Regular Substitute Training (REQUIRED) - Substitute Teachers/Aides (regular classroom) Eligibility (click here)
B. All Special Education Classroom and Temporary Paraprofessional Positions Working with Students with Disabilities | Required substitute Training as described in A Class size limited to 30 participants Participants will receive a stipend upon successful completion of each special education training session Working with students with disabilities Topics—overview of special education laws, regulations, & service -strengthening communications skills with students, families, IEP teams -strengthening instructional & behavioral skills -Student Study Team process of Special Education -characteristics/categories of Special Education Services -confidentiality of information
C. Specific Areas-Special Education:
Autism -- ABA Training - Required substitute Training as described in A and B
- Temporary positions working with students with autism
- Maximum of 30 Participants
Topics—overview of neurobiological disorder of autism -communication, socialization, stereotypical behavior of students with autism -monitor student progress with data collection -medicaid procedures -professional collaboration/communication with team members -flexibility to move quickly/freely/calmly -openness for constructive criticism· - Must pass a written skills test
- Required 30 hours of supervised observations
Crisis Prevention/Intervention (CPI)
- Required substitute training described in A & B above
- Maximum of 30 participants
- Focus—skills for prevention, intervention & postvention of inappropriate behaviors & working with at-risk students exhibiting verbal and/or physical aggression
- Must pass a written skills test
- Receipt of Certificate of Completion from CPI
Basic First Aid - Required substitute training described in A & B above
- Maximum of 30 participants
- Focus -- Emergency care in the school setting
Related Services in Schools - Substitute training required as described in A & B above
- Pre-register for Related Services in Schools
- Maximum of 30 Participants
Topics—overview of students w/severe cognitive impairment -how to maneuver/lift students safely -assist w/instruction/completion of individual student tasks -how to safely attend to personal care needs (toileting, feeding, brushing hair & teeth)
