Horry County Schools Phase III Project List

As Horry County grows, so grows the need for new schools and classrooms. On November 2, 2004, a $240 million bond referendum was approved for additional schools and renovations. The list of projects in Horry County Schools' Phase III Building Program includes six new schools and additions and renovations to 20 others. The Phase III project list is categorized by attendance zone and describes the work to be performed at each school. AYNOR ATTENDANCE AREA

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO AYNOR HIGH SCHOOL – Major renovations and additions, including new classrooms and labs, a new media center, and additional space for vocational programs will help bring this school up to current district wide facility standards. 


CAROLINA FOREST ATTENDANCE AREA

NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL #2 IN CAROLINA FOREST ATTENDANCE AREA
This school for 950 students would be an additional middle school for the growing Carolina Forest area. This school would serve students from a newly created attendance area, becoming one of two middle schools to be built in the Carolina Forest attendance area. Once this second middle school is completed, attendance zone adjustments would be necessary.

NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL #1 IN CAROLINA FOREST ATTENDANCE AREA
This school for 950 students would be a replacement for the current middle school housed at the joint middle/high campus on Gardner Lacy Rd. With the conversion of Carolina Forest Education Center into a unified high school facility, a new middle school campus is needed. This school would serve students from the current attendance area, becoming one of two middle schools to be built in the Carolina Forest
attendance area. Once the second middle school is completed, attendance zone adjustments would be necessary.
 
NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN CAROLINA FOREST ATTENDANCE AREA - This school for 650 students is an additional elementary school for the Carolina Forest area.

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO CAROLINA FOREST HIGH – Additions to the existing facility to accommodate the expected 2,000 plus students in grades 9-12 include a cafeteria expansion, a larger weight room and ROTC facility, expansion of the football stadium seating, and some renovations to existing instructional spaces. 
 
ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO WACCAMAW ELEMENTARY – Additions and renovations to the existing facility would provide additional capacity for the student population, a new multi-purpose facility, new administration and guidance areas, computer labs and resource spaces.


CONWAY ATTENDANCE AREA

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO CONWAY HIGH – Additions to the existing facility include 35 new classrooms, 10 science lab areas, computer labs, multi-purpose facility, cafeteria expansion, and numerous other support area renovations. Additions and renovations will help bring the school up to current district wide facility standards and allow for the future growth of student enrollment. 

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO CONWAY MIDDLE – Additions and renovations to the existing facility include converting some classrooms to science labs, adding a new full-size gymnasium, computer labs, mini-auditorium, and resources areas.

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO WHITTEMORE PARK MIDDLE - Additions and renovations to the existing facility include adding additional science labs, renovating the full-size gymnasium and mini-auditorium, additional computer labs, and resources areas. 


GREEN SEA FLOYDS ATTENDANCE AREA

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO GREEN SEA FLOYDS ELEMENTARY – Additions and renovations to the existing facility include the construction of a new full-size multi-purpose facility to house school/community functions and physical education. 
 
ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO GREEN SEA FLOYDS HIGH (6-12) – Additions and renovations to the existing facility are needed to house the 6th grade from Green Sea Floyds Elementary, making the school a true middle/high school facility. Among the many additions/renovations needed are five science labs, four classrooms, two computer labs, one resource room, one self-contained room, a multi-purpose meeting room, a gymnasium for the middle school, guidance suite, assistant principal’s office, and audio/video, chorus, band and art studios. Additional teacher workrooms and storage areas will also be added.

LORIS ATTENDANCE AREA

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO LORIS HIGH – Additions and renovations to the existing facility include two additional science labs, three computer labs, a multi-purpose meeting room, audio/video studio, multi-purpose room for physical education, stadium lighting, auditorium and other general support area upgrades – all intended to bring the school closer to current district wide facility standards. 


MYRTLE BEACH ATTENDANCE AREA

NEW MYRTLE BEACH ELEMENTARY – This school for 650 students is a replacement for the existing elementary school.

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO MYRTLE BEACH MIDDLE – The addition of three science labs to the existing facility would bring it up to current capacity standards for middle schools.

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO MYRTLE BEACH PRIMARY -  Additions and renovations to the existing facility would provide additional capacity for the growing student population, a new multi-purpose facility, new administration and guidance areas, computer labs and resource spaces. 


NORTH MYRTLE BEACH ATTENDANCE AREA

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO NORTH MYRTLE BEACH INTERMEDIATE – Additions and renovations to the existing facility would provide a new multi-purpose facility, six additional classrooms, an additional science and computer lab, and several resource spaces.

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO NORTH MYRTLE BEACH MIDDLE - The addition of three science labs to the existing facility would bring it up to current capacity standards for middle schools.

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO NORTH MYRTLE BEACH PRIMARY - Additions and renovations to the existing facility would bring it up to current standards for elementary schools. Additions include 25 new/replacement classrooms, guidance area and resource room, HVAC upgrades and interior renovations.


SOCASTEE ATTENDANCE AREA

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO FORESTBROOK ELEMENTARY - Additions and renovations to the existing facility would bring it up to current standards for elementary schools. Additions/renovations include a computer lab, science lab, resource spaces, administration and guidance spaces, and a new multi-purpose room.

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO LAKEWOOD ELEMENTARY - Additions and renovations to the existing facility would bring it up to current standards for elementary schools. Additions include a kindergarten and primary classroom, expansion/renovation of the kitchen and cafeteria, and some general support spaces.

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO SOCASTEE ELEMENTARY - Additions and renovations to the existing facility would bring it up to current standards for elementary schools. Additions/renovations include four regular classrooms, resource spaces, re-roofing the building, HVAC replacement, carpet replacement and ceiling tile replacement.

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO FORESTBROOK MIDDLE – The addition of three science labs to the existing facility would bring it up to current capacity standards for middle schools.


 ST. JAMES ATTENDANCE AREA

NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN ST. JAMES ATTENDANCE AREA - This school for 650 students is an additional elementary school for the St. James attendance area.


OTHER

ADDITIONS/RENOVATIONS TO CONWAY EDUCATION CENTER – Addition and renovations include restrooms and changing areas for nine classrooms, ceiling tile, carpet replacement, re-roofing, painting, fire alarm upgrades, HVAC upgrades, kitchen upgrades, paving, outside lighting, library materials, and an exterior upgrade.

NEW ACADEMY OF ARTS, SCIENCES & TECHNOLOGY – A newly constructed Academy will provide expanded learning experiences for students from high schools in Horry County. Located near the Myrtle Beach and Carolina Forest areas, this state of the art facility will include offerings such as drama, dance, media, art, environmental science, entertainment technology, pre-engineering and pre-med.
