September 7, 2007 After reading nearly a half-million pages, the students and faculty of Carolina Forest High School will be recognized for winning the South Carolina No Book Left Unread 2007 Summer Reading Challenge. The school family won the contest after having read almost one-third of the total number of pages submitted in the statewide competition. During a recognition ceremony, Martha Alewine, Consultant for School Library Services for the South Carolina Department of Education and Frank Bowdoin of the Reading Warehouse in Charleston will present school and individual awards. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 13, in the school media center at 10:15 a.m. Carolina Forest High School will be honored for winning the state championship for the Summer Reading Challenge. Collectively, the school family read 454,190 pages last summer. In addition, math teacher Christopher Simpson will receive an award for having read 52,481 pages, the most among participating high school faculty members from around the state. Sophomore David Burlinson will receive an award for having read the most number of pages among participating high school students. Burlinson read 12,585 pages. Each student and adult winner will receive a gift certificate from The Reading Warehouse and a selection of books compliments of School Library Media Services.
