December 13, 2006 The search is underway for a new superintendent for Horry County Schools. Following the resignation of Dr. Gerrita Postlewait last June, Dr. Bobby Nalley, former deputy superintendent of support services, was appointed to serve as the acting superintendent until a new superintendent could be named. Postlewait served as the superintendent for a decade. At the request of the Board of Education, the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) is conducting the superintendent search. After the holidays, SCSBA will work with the district staff to hold a series of meetings to gather input from employees, parents, business leaders, students, and other members of the community regarding the characteristics they desire most in a new superintendent. Following an extensive effort to advertise the position nationally, SCSBA will screen applications and conduct background checks on applicants before bringing a list of candidates to the Board for consideration. The Board will determine which candidates to interview and will visit the communities of finalists before making a decision. A new superintendent could be named the first of May with the expectation that he or she reports to work on or before July 1. The deadline for application is March 15, 2007.
