HCS is first district in South Carolina to earn district accreditation
March 8, 2006

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) announced on Wednesday afternoon that Horry County Schools has become the first school district in South Carolina to earn accreditation under a new district review process. A 13-member Quality Assurance Review Team spent three days reviewing the district's compliance with accreditation standards and interviewing more than 300 stakeholders. Only 23 districts in the nation have achieved district accreditation.

Previously all individual schools participated in SACS accreditation reviews separately. This new district accreditation process replaces the individual school accreditation reviews. The accreditation is granted for a five-year term.
