February 27, 2006 From the district’s 47 Teachers of the Year, 10 have been named semi-finalists for the title of Horry County Teacher of the Year. A selection committee reviewed applications from school-level winners to select the Top 10 semi-finalists. Applications included a resume, biography, philosophy of teaching, and the teacher’s advocacy efforts for the profession.Semi-finalists will be interviewed by a panel and will be asked to produce artifacts of student achievement. Following interviews, five finalists will be selected by March 3. The selection committee will conduct classroom observations the week of March 27. The district winner will be announced at the Teacher of the Year banquet on May 11. Top 10 semi-finalists are: Jason Manley, Academy for Arts, Science, & Technology ; Lisa Ianni, Loris High School; Peggy Ryals, Myrtle Beach High School; Nancy Ray, Aynor Middle School; Melanie Jones, Forestbrook Middle School; Brian Daniels, Loris Middle School; Marti Hancock, Carolina Forest Elementary School; Linda Puckett, Forestbrook Elementary School; Christina Cook, Lakewood Elementary School; and Ashley Gasperson, Myrtle Beach Intermediate School.
